The Indianapolis Colts will look to reach the win column in their preseason home opener as they host the Washington Redskins at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Colts are coming off a lack lustre performance on the road against the upstart St. Louis Rams in which Colts starter Peyton Manning failed to see the field which resulted in a 23-point loss and a measly 10 points of offensive production. The Skins meanwhile are coming off a 16-7 victory over the defending AFC Champions from Pittsburgh behind an extended performance from Rex Grossman who threw for over 200 yards and a touchdown. Both teams will be itching for a victory as they set the stage for what should be very competitive intradivisional seasons.

Washington will be looking for its second win in as many games and they come into this one as 4-point raod favourites against the Colts who are more than likely going to leave Manning on the sidelines once again. Much of the buzz surrounding the Skins this offseason has come as a result of comments from quarterback Rex Grossman who loosely claimed the Skins as the team to beat in the NFC East. Grossman will be looking to back up his word again with a strong preseason and if he can get equal to or more playing time as he did against the Steelers than the Skins could very well take an early advantage against a short handed Colts team. Washington has pretty decent options through the air with Santana Moss leading the way and castaways Donte Stallworth and Jabar Gaffney still playing at a respectable level it leaves running backs Ryan Torain and Tim Hightower with some breathing room.
Indy meanwhile is playing in their preaseason home opener and will be hoping for a more favourable result at Lucas Oil after a disappointing preseason opener in St. Louis. As mentioned Peyton Manning was nowhere to be found and Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky were unable to get the Colts offense into any form of respectability. Pierre Garcon did break out for a 41-yard gain on his only reception of the game but the remainder of the Colts offense was pretty thin as they dropped their season opener 33-10. Orlovsky threw 2 interceptions in relief of Painter and with the tandem likely splitting time again even if Manning does get the nod there is nothing to indicate that they are capable of putting points on the board against a Skins team who played well against the Steelers. Preseason is tough to gauge and getting the Colts at home as a dog in any circumstance should scream a steal I think the Redskins are in a good spot here. Grossman will get extended playing time again and I think the Colts are at the point where they are limiting Manning's involvement until absolutely necessary.
